Installing & Using ERUNT

(To download these instructions as a printable PDF file, right-click on this icon: "ERUNT Use" procedure  and choose “Save Target As…”)

To remove the adware/spyware launch points with my help, you'll need to backup and restore your registry using the freeware programs “ERUNT” and “ERDNT”. “ERUNT” is used to back up the registry. “ERDNT” is used to restore a backed-up copy. The file that's downloaded, “erunt-setup.exe”, contains both programs.

Here, I'll show you how to download “erunt-setup.exe”, how to install it, and how to use it to back up the registry. Pay particular attention to step 12.
  1. To download the program, right-click on this link, ERUNT Setup, and choose “Save Target As…”.

Right-click on the link and select "Save Target As…"

  2. In the “Save As” window, go to a folder that you can find easily. Here, I've chosen “My Documents”.

Save the script in a directory you can easily find.

  3. After the download has completed, go to the directory where the file was saved. Here, for demonstration purposes, I'll assume that the file was saved in “My Documents” and that the “My Documents” folder is displayed on the desktop. So, I go to the desktop and double-click on the “My Documents” icon.

Go to the directory where the file was saved.

  4. You may have many other files in the folder that contains the file you saved. Here, for demonstration purposes, I only show the file that was just downloaded.

Find the file in the directory.

  5. To launch the installation program, double-click the icon.

  6. Choose the language for the installation windows that will follow:

    Choose the installation language.

  7. At the “ERUNT Setup Wizard” Welcome window, press “Next”.

At the Setup Wizard Welcome window, press "Next".

  8. At the “Select Destination Location” window, accept the default location and press “Next”.

Accept the default installation directory by pressing "Next".

  9. At the “Select Start Menu Folder” window, accept the default folder name and press “Next”.

Accept the default Start Menu folder name by pressing "Next".

  10. On the “Select Additional Tasks” window, uncheck the “Create NTREGOPT desktop icon” option and press “Next”.

Uncheck the "Create NTREGOPT desktop icon" option and then press "Next".

  11. On the “Ready to Install” window, review your choices and if everything looks OK, press the “Install” button.

If everything looks OK, press the "Install" button.

  12. Important! When you see this window: “Setup can add a shortcut to your start menu's Startup folder”, press the “No” button. You don't need this automatic backup option. In fact, if you're using my disinfection service, it will do more harm than good.

IMPORTANT! Here, press the "No" button.

  13. At the “Completing ERUNT Setup Wizard” window, uncheck “Show documentation” and press the “Finish” button.

Unselect the "Show documentation" option and press "Finish".

  14. Installation is now complete. The ERUNT program will immediately start up to back up the registry. This is the only registry backup needed for my disinfection service.

  15. At the ERUNT program “Welcome!” window, press “OK” to continue.

Press the "OK" button to continue.

  16. Ensure that both “System registry” and “Current user registry” are checked. Accept the default backup folder location by pressing the “OK” button to continue.

Check to back up both registries. Then press the "OK" button.

  17. Click “Yes” to create the backup folder.

Press the "Yes" button to create the backup folder.

  18. When the backup is completed, press the “OK” button.

Press the "OK" button when the backup is complete.
